Mestalla brimming with emotions running high
Relive the emotional events that took place in the run-up to Valencia CF-Real Betis to pay tribute to the victims and those affected by the tragic flash floods
Matchday 12 of the LaLiga season gets underway at the RCDE Stadium on Saturday afternoon, as Valencia CF take on RCD Espanyol. One of the players in with a chance of starting up front for the team is Maxi Gómez, who has an impressive scoring record against Los Pericos in league competition.
The Uruguayan last visited the ground on the outskirts of Barcelona earlier this year, for Matchday 34 of the last campaign. Playing for former club Celta Vigo, he was on target to cancel out a strike from Espanyol's Wu Lei in a 1-1 draw.
Espanyol are one of the sides that have felt the wrath of Gómez most fiercely. The marksman has met them on 4 occasions and found the net 3 times, making them amongst the teams in Spain against which he has scored the most -along with Real Sociedad, Getafe and Real Betis.
In his first season in Europe, back in 2017/18, Gómez grabbed a brace in an encounter with Espanyol. What he is still looking for, however, is a first victory against this weekend's opposition, despite his goalscoring exploits.
Having started the season with four goals to his name in LaLiga, on Saturday he has another chance to complete some unfinished business at the RCDE Stadium.
